Martovia is the land of rhythmic chaos. It is a mart-chaos and it can knock you down and blow you away like a wild wind of spring. It will dishevel your thoughts and leave you wandering around inside your dreams. But this chaos is not a mess; it is a peculiar harmony, the harmony of Martovi band, their live energy and their vision of the world. The concordant orchestra of melancholy and mirth, despair and hope is served in a certain proportion that cannot leave you indifferent. The sad tune tinkles then it mixes, changes, stratifies, disassembles and arranges again improving to the state of chaos. Bitter melancholy swiftly assumes ironic tones and bit by bit it grows into a flurry of energy of great power that can make you lose your sense of space and deepen you into a gyre of madness. Even when the whirl stops it won’t let you calm down and its zest will influence your thoughts and actions. Ignoring stylistic limits and patterns Martovi create their own version of contemporary Ukrainian music. Unexpected mix of various elements shapes into a vivid and wild multicolor puzzle that makes enigmatic mysterious effect. The history of Martovi band began in March 2006. Sergiy Asafatov and Mikola Bistritsky used to play together outdoors. Their acoustical project adopts the name ‘Martovi planets’, it will be shortened afterwards. As time went on Dana Tomaschevich (drums), Vitaly Grin’ko (bass) and Genia Gorbata (cello) joined the band and later came Slavko Stecenko (pipe) and Roman Kulmatitsky (another pipe). That was the original Martovi cast that gathered about a year before their appearance at festival Unizh-2008. The harmonious combination of such different instruments makes the band's unique sound. Sincerity of their songs appeals to the listener’s emotions. The presentation of the young band at the festival Sheshory 2008 became an important event for Martovi. That same year they won the qualifying round of the festival ‘Chervona Ruta’. Since then some members of the band (most of them are students) went on to make the life of our country better by some other ways. Another people entered the band: Volodymyr Kolisnik (saxophone, flute, oboe), Svitlanka Stebnovska (cello), Igor Gromada (electric guitar), Olexandr Podufalov (trumpet), and Sergei Asafatov now not only sings but plays acoustic guitar and trombone. Transformation of the band led to changes in their sound, it became more rich and emotional more serious and rhythmic. Generally in Martovi’s music there are elements of romance, classical music, folk, rock, funk, drive-punk, Gypsy and Balkan tunes can be heard.
The history of the band is unfolding now. On May 16 they present their first album called “Chas”. |
